Reducing Holiday Stress for Your Employees

The holidays can be a stressful time for everyone. Employees are often busy on multiple fronts and stress at home can create stress during the holiday season at work. In this post, we’ll discuss how you can reduce holiday stress for your employees.

Scheduling

The holidays are the time when you know employees will likely need additional time off. Planning ahead of time for extended absences or travel can reduce stress for your employees.  The holidays are a perfect time to consider hiring temp workers to lighten the load and to keep offices and businesses running smoothly while regular employees take vacation days. Implementing flexible scheduling also allows employees to leave early on a day when they might need to go to the store or pick someone up from the airport. This type of flexibility will be greatly appreciated and allow employees to be more focused when they are working, rather than being concerned about their to-do list at home.

Wellness Programs

Secondly, the holidays are a great time to launch wellness programs. Wellness programs can include encouraging your employees to exercise, having a therapy hotline available, or encouraging meditation. Family issues, eating poorly, and stress can all cause your employees to feel distracted at work. Offering wellness programs prioritizes your employee’s health, in turn making them more productive.

Getting Out of the Office

Whether it is a nice meal or renting out a ballroom for an office bash, a change of scenery can be a real boost for employees. Being able to relax and get out of the office allows employees to blow off steam and engage in a more organic way with their co-workers. Winter and shorter days make it easy to get into a rut, but going out breaks up the monotony. It’s also a good way for employees to create fond memories and for you to show them that you appreciate them.

Bonuses

Finally, while this may seem obvious, the holidays are a time when employees are often spending more. Gifts for family and friends or the cost of travel and entertainment can put employees in a stressful financial situation. Holiday bonuses give employees a little extra breathing room and that can go a long way.
